Theme: The Labour movement, Strikes and, Poverty.
KIDS History Vacation school is held during the last week in July annually. Each year, the Montrose Academy, the junior division of the Institute, is set up in a rural community, where the community leaders work along with the Institute, to run the one week school.
The GIHR Director teaches the main lesson. The Registrar and, tutors are drawn from the host community.
Children are exposed to history, and are encouraged to improve their critical, analytical and, numerical skills. At the end of the week, there is a graduation ceremony. This comprises the distribution of certificates, prize giving and, a cultural show, by the children.
The prize giving ceremony is held in recognition of the performance of the kids, who excelled on the programme. The Registrar identifies the prize winners.
Prizes
1. Best graduating student.
2. Runner up.
3. Student other than the best and 2nd best who participated and, was punctual.
4. Best reader.
5. Most cooperative student.
6. Anonymous donor prize for student who showed potential.
7. Best essay.
8. Best Art work.
9. A token for each child.
Each child is presented with a certificate. Snack is served after the graduation
KIDS History Vacation School is held annually, during the last week in July. The 2014 school was held from July 21 to 25 in Atlantic Gardens.

The Guyana Institute of Historical Research has published the following KIDS History series. These can be purchased from the Institute. The cost ranges from $500-$800.
